1913. Modeste fonctionnaire de l'administration indienne, Srinivasa Ramanujan décide d'écrire à Geoffrey H. Hardy, l'un des plus célèbres mathématiciens de l'époque. Ce dernier, étonné par le talent spectaculaire de Ramanujan, décide de le faire venir en Grande-Bretagne. Il débarque à Cambridge et va devoir prouver aux plus grands mathématiciens de l'histoire, la véracité de ses recherches...
