Diaspora Power (2026)

Pas encore de résumé en français · résumé original en anglais

Inspired by the stories of Haitian women and men who arrived in Quebec during the 1960s and 1970s, Diaspora Power, directed by Joseph Hillel, traces a generation navigating exile, migration, and the challenges of building a new home. Through intimate personal stories, the documentary explores the realities of integration and systemic racism alongside the solidarity, community networks, and cultural connections that sustained Haitian immigrants as they established new lives in Quebec. Together, these individual experiences form a collective portrait of a diaspora determined to maintain its roots while becoming an integral part of Quebec society. Diaspora Power is both an act of remembrance and transmission, honoring the people whose lives, labor, and resilience helped shape the social and cultural fabric of contemporary Quebec.
